A Community Voice Protests for Jobs

July 3rd, 2012  A Community Voice members protest for jobs in the Lower 9th Ward. Residents came out to picket for jobs because recovery projects such as the streetscape improvements to N. Claiborne and St. Claude Ave. use out of town companies who fail to comply with Section 3 laws and hire residents from the community.

This is the first of many such protests to win jobs for residents.

Hire NOLA Jobs Forum

June 28th, 2012  Over 200 residents came out to the A Community Voice Hire NOLA jobs forum at First Grace United Methodist Church on Canal Street against the issue of jobs for residents.  Billions of recovery dollars have flooded New Orleans. Yet, local minority contractors and local residents are denied the opportunity to apply for contracts and gain jobs in the recovery effort.  There are no training programs or enforcement on companies to hire local residents.  Time and time again these good-paying jobs have gone workers outside the State.  ACV is building up a database of employees and fighting for jobs for all residents.  If you need a job, call ACV at 504-941-2852 to get in our jobs database and be invited to the next meeting.  Together, we can win jobs!
